Eatery Review : The Escape Lesson

Hi.
This is the first time of me reviewing an eatery...
Couple weeks ago, one of my friend suddenly have an idea, how if we escape life a little while; quick trip to Jogja. Since we're facing final exam, we said yes. Our brain needs refresh click. And after spent 2 hours of doing girls-knotty-thingy and 1 hour on the road, we finally step our feet in the capital city of Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta. It's about 2pm when we got there and we're all starving to death. After those "up-to-you" battle, finally we decided to stop by Kongkalikong. Here's a quick review.

Kongkalikong (Dine & Coffee House)
Located at Jl Taman Siswa No 17, Yogyakarta, DIY
Exterior hint: Old-fashioned house
Interior theme: Vintage (♥♥♥)
Cosiness Rate: ✔✔
Serving Rate: ✔✔
Price Range: I lost my notes but I think it's IDR 3K - 56K

This is our table view.
Number 5's food haven't arrived yet, and I had to choose between starving-as-hell-yet-capture-complete-dishes or take-pictures-now-eat-asap-not-caring-about-our-friend-tummy.
Yea we are mean girls -only when we're starving.

1) Spicy Fried Noodle (✔✔)

We ordered 2 pastas, 2 Indonesian foods, and this one. It's accidentally balancing the others, I think. Because for me noodle is the other form for pasta in Asian version.
Like they had mentioned in the name, this noodle really is spicy. You can see by its look. We rate this 2/5 because for us it supposed to have not only hot but also salty taste.

Luckily, the fresh drink balanced it well; the all time favorite Orange Float (✔✔). They made a good combination of sweet and fresh-sour. And the vanilla ice-cream on top won't make you feel sick.

2) Nasi Iga Pedes ()

Who doesn't love ribs? This dish is representing Indonesian food so much, cause I think (nowadays) not many Indonesian eateries add vegetable urap in a dish. Especially in a themed-eatery that mostly visited by youngster. (If you didn't know what urap is, read here). My friend, one of real-spicy-maniac said the spicy taste from the ribs is a kind of delicious one. She said it will be much better if they add more hot spice.

For this dish, a tropical drink sounds match. A glass of Watermelon Juice (✔✔), and by putting the 'juice' word, they mean it, it's not a smoothies (you know like if you ordered juice from the menu, but you got smoothies on your table; misconception). But (too bad) my friend said it's not as refreshing as it looks.

3) Pasta Carbonara (✔✔✔)

Cliché, I know. But a plate of penne covered with creamy carbonara sauce is a true lifesaver. Instant way to filled up your hungry tummy. Though it rated 3/5, I'm still in deeply in love with La Borsa's pastas. (I'll review that eatery maybe, one day if I got enough money in my pocket haha).
The drink I ordered it's the best part, if you feel creamy sauce is enough, balance it with Ice Lychee Tea (✔✔). Not only served in a cute mason jar, the lychees itself isn't too sweet yet refreshing.

4) Nasi Ayam Taliwang (✔✔✔)

This dish is originally come from West Nusa Tenggara, not sure if the taste is actually the same but this one is good, too. The savory taste from the chicken mixed well with the spicy chopped-seasoning on its top. Even this kind of chopped-seasoning brings the spicy yet juicy taste out.
Ice Strawberry Tea (✔✔✔) just perfectly complete it. It's fresh and the strawberry slices isn't too acidic. Though the strawberry syrup is a bit too sweet, the soda blend it well and make a good combination.

5) Pasta de Polo Spezie (✔✔✔)

It's a spaghetti cooked with a chili pasta sauce. They add few slices of chicken and (like almost all pasta place in this town did) pouring some grated cheddar on the top. Why it rated 2/5? Because the chili pasta sauce's taste is similar to bottled sauce. But if you like to eat fast, (I mean like your mouth is always full when you eat) the chili sauce will starts taste like a pasta sauce.
To make your tummy fully threat, match this dish with Hazelnut Choco Creamy (✔✔✔). A perfect beverage. Again, the ice cream won't make you sick. I think this is one of the perks eating in a Coffee House; they serve nice choco drink.

So this is quick review for Kongkalikong. We didn't have much time to take pictures of the interior and best menus there (I even forgot to take our beverage pics one by one). But many tables surround us ordered pizza, so I assumed they serving it good. The feeling inside the eatery is very homey, we love the vintage decoration so much. They put old polaroid camera on shelves, old radio on the other corner there are some old paintings and photographs too. Did I mentioned they have outdoor tables and cozy couches? Oh, ya and I was sitting on a window seat (I really want to read a book in that seat). Just give this place a try!

Will learn to add more details on my next review :)
Hope y'all get inspired. Ramadhan is nearly here, a place for iftar with family and friends, maybe?
xx

And thanks to my sudden escape gals; NurulAyukShendaVina for helping me making this review.
